![]() Education and Licensure Committee Co-Chair I graduated from the University of Texas School of Nursing in Austin, Texas 1984. I received my Masters of Nursing and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Corpus Christi State University in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1988. The focus of my nursing career has always been in Maternal Child Nursing. I have 4 children ranging in ages from 12-18 years old and a wonderful husband. I have done staff nursing in postpartum, NICU, and nursery areas in various local hospitals. I have taught childbirth classes, CPR classes, and breastfeeding classes for many years. I gravitated towards obtaining my certification in lactation consulting many years ago as I always found mothers eager to learn about breastfeeding, but frustrated with problems that would occur. I became a Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 2000. I have thoroughly enjoyed this new profession and presently am the Lactation Program Coordinator for Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. My role at the hospital is to promote breastfeeding and to help moms have a successful breastfeeding experience with their baby. We have a program in place in which moms can also donate to the local milk bank in Austin, Texas. I do private lactation consulting and private breastfeeding/CPR classes in the community. I am presently the president of the local Coastal Bend Breastfeeding Coalition and a member of the new Texas Breastfeeding Coalition that is forming. I am an adjunct professor at Texas A & M University in Corpus Christi, Texas for maternal child nursing courses as needed. |
